"The landscape of Svenska Landscapes has at some point in history been part of Sweden, today they belong to 12 other countries. Several of them look like what we characterize as a typical" Swedish "landscape, others look very exotic.
The paintings can be seen as a metaphor for our contemporary and how we look at ourselves and our place in the world that is constantly evolving and transformed in history. Does this change also affect our self-image ?!
The reasons for how we look at our world are, of course, complex, but one can say that we categorize and take a position based on what we see and what we carry with us in terms of knowledge, opinions and experiences. Automatically we get a relation to what we see; We shape an opinion and create an approach to this. Hopefully, the paintings in Svenska Landscapes can open the eyes of the viewer and, with the help of the titles, ask questions about identity, history and our relationship with ourselves in a multifaceted, internationalized contemporary.
The motives are from: Denmark, Estonia, Finland, the French Caribbean, Ghana, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Russia, Germany and the United States."
